U.S. U-17 WNT Heads to Europe for Two Tough Matches
CHICAGO (July, 2 2007) - The U.S. Under-17 Women’s National Team, lead by head coach Dean Duerst, will travel to Germany and England from July 8-15 for two difficult matches against European Under-19 sides getting ready for the UEFA U-19 Women’s Championships being held July 18-29 in Iceland. The young U.S. team will travel first to Frankfurt, Germany, where they will take on Denmark’s U-19s on July 12, before heading the next day to London to face England’s U-19s on July 14. Duerst has called up three players who have been with the U.S. U-16s this year, and who are age-eligible for next year’s FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in New Zealand, in midfielder Olivia Klei, defender Alev Perusse and forward Alyssa Rich. The U.S. U-17s are 5-0-0 this year and have given up just one goal, earning two victories over Germany’s U-17s in March as well as wins over University of Central Florida and the University of Miami. Forward Tiffany McCarty leads the U.S. team in scoring with five goals so far in 2007.
