U.S. Under-17 91s fall to Japan in Toyota

TOYOTA, Japan (Aug. 10, 2007) – The U.S. Under-17 ’91 Men’s National Team fell to Japan, 3-1, in the opening game of the Toyota International Youth Championship.

A fourth minute goal from Ryo Nagai gave Japan an early lead that they wouldn’t relinquish. Japan scored again in the 41st minute when Kazyki Kimura finished a Takashi Usaka free kick to go up 2-0 at halftime. The United States finally got on the board in the 56th minute when Chad Barson put away a loose ball in the box to pull the Americans within a goal. As the U.S. pressured to get the equalizer, Usami Takashi added an insurance goal on the counter attack in the 69th minute.

The U.S. takes on Australia on Aug. 11 to determine their placement match, which will be played on Aug. 12.
