Ely Allen Replaces Robbie Rogers for U-18 Milk Cup

CHICAGO (July 26, 2005) - U.S. Under-18 Men’s National Team head coach Bob Jenkins has announced one change to the team’s roster for the upcoming Milk Cup Tournament from Aug. 1-5 in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Forward Ely Allen will replace midfielder Robbie Rogers, who was unable to make the trip due to an injury.

The University of Washington forward will replace Rogers, who was one of the final players to be cut from the U.S. U-20 World Youth Championship roster. Allen has been in past camps with the U-18s and U-20s the past two years.

The U.S. will take on Brazil in their opening match on Aug. 1, before facing Cameroon two days later. Interestingly, the U.S. will not face the other team in the elite group, host Northern Ireland, which will also face Cameroon and Brazil.

Depending on the team’s showing against their two opponents, the U.S. will play in either the championship game or third place match against one of the other three teams. The U.S. will depart for Northern Ireland on July 28 and return to the U.S. on Aug. 6, a day after the tournament ends.
