Adams, O'Hara Score as U.S. U-20 WNT Wins First Two Matches in Portland

The U.S. Under-20 Women’s National Team won its first two matches during a training camp in Portland, Ore., defeating Washington State, 3-0, on April 1, and the University of Washington, 4-3, on April 2, as preparations for the 2006 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Championships continue.

The USA will be back in action on Tuesday, April 4, against the University of Portland (5 p.m. at the University of Portland), before facing Oregon State (5 p.m. on April 6 at the University of Portland) and Ohio State (4 p.m. on April 8 at Nike Headquarters).

Against the Cougars, the USA got the first goal from midfielder Tina DiMartino in the 28th minute, her fifth of the year, and a second from midfielder Danesha Adams in the 55th minute, her ninth of the year. The final goal was scored in the 87th minute by midfielder Kelley O’Hara, the youngest player in the pool who is coming off knee surgery. O’Hara finished a Jessica Rostedt cross from close range for the final margin.

Against the Huskies, Rostedt opened the scoring in the eighth minute, but Washington scored twice to take the lead before Rostedt scored again in the 19th to tie the game. The two scores upped Rostedt’s yearly total to a team-leading 14 goals. Adams put the USA ahead in the 76th minute with her 10th goal of the year, only to see Washington tie the game in the 82nd minute. O’Hara, who played only the end of the two matches as she comes back from her surgery, played hero in stoppage time, scoring on an assist from Adams in the 91st minute.
