Symposium to Take Place Aug. 26-27 at
Brand New Toyota Park in Bridgeview, Ill.

CHICAGO (Aug. 7, 2006) – U.S. Soccer will host a coaching symposium at the brand new home of the Chicago Fire in Bridgeview, Ill., on Aug. 26-27, in conjunction with the U.S. Women’s National Team match against China. The symposium will focus on “Preparation for a World Cup” and features classroom sessions with WNT National Staff and Assistant Coaches, and a Women’s National Team match as well as a Major League Soccer game.

“A” licensed coaches will earn two Continuing Education Units for attending the two-day symposium (download application). The symposium kicks off on Saturday, Aug. 26, with a presentation by U.S. Women’s National Staff Coach Mike Dickey on “Completing the American Soccer Player.” The presentation will be followed by a WNT training session, led by WNT head coach Greg Ryan.

In the afternoon, U.S. WNT assistant coach Bret Hall will conduct a classroom session on individual and group defending. Afterwards, coaches attending the symposium will have the opportunity to attend an MLS game between the Chicago Fire and the Colorado Rapids on Saturday night. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. CT.

Sunday morning features another classroom session, led by WNT assistant coach Mark Dougherty on training forwards and improving the team’s ability to score. The symposium wraps up with the WNT’s match vs. China at 12 p.m. CT, which will be broadcast live on ESPN2 and ussoccer.com’s MatchTracker.

Cost for the symposium is $75 for active-members and $85 for non-members, and includes a t-shirt and tickets to two professional matches. Coaches can become members by visiting the Coaching Education section of ussoccer.com and selecting “Coaches Organization.” For coaches attending from out of town, a special rate of $139 per night has been secured at the Marriott Midway in Chicago, Ill. Coaches must mention the MLS Family/Media rate to get the reduced rate.

Coaches unable to attend the symposium will have more opportunities to learn from U.S. National Team coaches and earn CEUs as more coaching symposia are scheduled throughout the year. Symposia will be held in conjunction with the U.S. WNT’s match against Mexico at 8 p.m. ET (download application) on Wednesday, Sep. 13, at PAETEC Park in Rochester, N.Y., as well as the 2006 Women’s Nike Friendlies from Sep. 28 to Oct. 1 in Carson, Calif., and the 2006 Men’s Nike Friendlies from Dec. 7-10 in Bradenton, Fla. More information, including dates and venues, will be posted at ussoccer.com as it becomes available.
