U.S. Soccer's CoachesNet Launches In-Depth Q&A Video Series With Top National Team Coaches

CHICAGO (April 9, 2007) – In yet another forum for unique and original content on ussoccer.com, U.S. Soccer’s CoachesNet has launched the first in an on-going series of videos designed to showcase the philosophy driving the elite coaches in U.S. Soccer’s National Team Program. The first “Starting XI” CoachesNet video features the coaching philosophy of Greg Ryan, currently undefeated in more than two years at the helm of the U.S. Women’s National Team. (watch)

In the “Starting XI,” coaches answer 11 questions focusing on a wide range of subjects, from coaching education and youth development to modern technology in the game of soccer. In the coming weeks, the “Starting XI” will feature detailed discussions with the likes of U.S. Men’s National Team head coach Bob Bradley, U-17 MNT head coach John Hackworth, and Director of Coaching Education & Youth Development Bob Jenkins, among others. In addition to specific questions on dealing with everything from player burnout to the style of an opponent, the “Starting XI” interviews will reveal their tendencies in team management, their role models and how they began their coaching careers.

“All of the top coaches have a burning desire to win, and their determined to do that,” said Ryan in answering question No. 3 about the qualities that make a top-level coach. “Their methodologies might be quite different, but there is only one thing they want to do and that is to win. … I think that is the one common quality, and each coach then needs to find out how they are going to go about doing that.”

Available now through ussoccer.com, CoachesNet is devoted to educating its members on U.S. National Team coaching tactics by breaking down games at the highest level, analyzing training sessions and tactics, and delving into the keys to preparation. In addition, the content found only on CoachesNet features exclusive videos, podcasts and dissertations on everything from preparing for a particular opponent to putting together a roster to get the most out of an individual player.
