Cal Odyssey and Colorado Rush Play to Entertaining 1-1 Draw in West Conference Action

CHICAGO (March 19, 2008) – The U-15/16 Colorado Rush traveled on Sunday for an intraconference battle with Cal Odyssey, that ended in a 1-1 deadlock, keeping both teams on pace to climb up the ranks of the West Conference.

In a game that saw numerous chances for both teams also saw both goalkeepers, Carlos Alvarez and Alex Merrill, come up with late game heroics to preserve the tie for their respective team.

After a scoreless first half, Ivan Yanez finished off his own run into the box by scoring on a penalty kick in the 45th minute. The strike from the spot was Yanez’s third goal in Cal’s six Development Academy matches.

Minutes later, Cole Chapleski got through the Cal defense and slipped a ball past Alvarez to level the game, with the score holding up for a 1-1 final.

“It was a great opportunity for our team to play one of the top teams in the country,” said Odyssey head coach JJ Wozniak. “It was a quality game against a quality opponent, and even though the score was 1-1, both teams had numerous chances that made for an entertaining game.”

Wozniak’s side evened their Academy record at 2-2-2, after falling to Real Colorado on Saturday, March 15 by a 2-0 final score. Odyssey will play host to FC Portland on Saturday, March 22 and the Colorado Rapids on Sunday, March 23, continuing their stretch of West Conference games.

The Rush moved to 4-2-2 on the season after a 2-0 win against the DeAnza Force on Saturday. They will take on the Colorado Rapids on Wednesday, March 20 in a night game at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
