U.S. Under-17 MNT Drops Opening Match of Mondial Minimes Tournament to Germany  

MONTAIGU, France (March 19, 2008) -- The U.S. Under-17 Men's National team '92s, playing in their first international tournament overseas, dropped a close contest to Germany, 2-1, in the first game of the Mondial Minimes Tournament in Montaigu, France.

Carlos Martinez scored a penalty kick goal  to level the score in the 52nd minute, but Christopher-Massamba Mandiangu scored what would prove to be the game-winner 10 minutes later, firing a low shot past U.S. goalkeeper Earl Edwards.

Next up for the U.S. is a battle with Japan on Thursday, March 20.
