U.S. Futsal Team Splits Friendlies Against Brazilian Clubs

FORTALEZA, Brazil (May 9, 2008) -- The U.S. Futsal Team split a pair of friendlies against Brazilian professional clubs, picking up a win against Quixeramobim, 3-2, before falling to Horizonte, 5-3.

The U.S. twice came back from one-goal defecits against Quixeramobim. After giving up a quick goal in the fifth minute, the U.S. rebounded to level the score with a Chile Farias goal in the 15th minute. On the ensuing kickoff, Quixeramobim quickly regained their lead. But Sandre Naumoski and Jamar Beasley scored goals three minute apart in the second half to lift the U.S. to a 3-2 win.

The Americans found themselves in another early hole against Horizonte just a day later, giving up a goal in the sixth minute. But Denison Cabral evened the score in the 11th minute, and Matt Hatzke gave the U.S. the lead just two minutes later. Horizonte battled back to tie the game at two in the 18th minute, but Jamar Beasley put the U.S. back on top minutes later. Decisive goals from Horizonte in the 32nd, 38th and 39th minutes proved to be too much for the U.S., giving Horizonte the 5-3 win.
