CARSON, Calif. (Thursday, June 10, 2004) - The Final Draw for the 2004 FIFA U-19 Women's World Championship will take place tomorrow, Friday June 11, at 2 p.m. local time (3 a.m. ET) at the Imperial Queen Park Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand. The second edition of the FIFA U-19 Women's World Championship will be held in Thailand from November 10-27, 2004.

The defending champion United States qualified for the tournament by defeating Mexico, 6-0, in the semifinals of the CONCACAF Qualifying Tournament in Canada on June 4. The USA lost the championship game to Canada, 2-1, in overtime, which gave Canada a top seeding at the world championship.

The Final Draw will be held with only seven of the 12 participating teams having already qualified. Joining Canada and the USA will be South American champion Brazil, China and South Korea from Asia and Australia from Oceania. The four European teams will be determined at Europe's Final Round qualification tournament in Finland from July 26-August 9, 2004. Africa's one representative will be determined in September.

As usual in a FIFA competition, no teams from the same conferederation will be in the same first round group, with the exception of Europe, which has four teams among the 12, meaning one group must have two European teams in it. The three seeded teams will be Canada, Brazil and the top European finisher, while host Thailand has been placed atop Group A. During the draw, the three remaining European teams will be in one pot and drawn into separate groups, China and Japan will be in a third pot and drawn into separate groups while the USA will be in a pot with Australia and Africa, meaning they will not face the Oceania or African champions (likely Nigeria) in the first round.  What it does mean, is that in its four-team group, the USA could get host Thailand, Brazil, one or two European Teams, or China or South Korea.
