During their trip to South America, members of the U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team spent time at the Casa del Nino (“Home of the Children”) in Florencio Varela, a poverty-stricken province in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Geoffrey Miller, an American volunteer who lives in Buenos Aires, organized the event for the kids at Casa del Nino that involved 10 members of the U.S. team. Miller is a frequent volunteer at the center, spending a lot of time playing soccer at the school with the 26 boys who range in age from 10-13.

The day began with the members of the U.S. team introducing themselves and answering questions about what they do on a daily basis, and whether they were enjoying their time in Argentina.

Then, the kids and the U.S. players went outside and played a friendly game on the grounds of the school. Among the spectators for the game was Deputy Chief of Mission Thomas Kelly from the U.S. Embassy. After a competitive 30 minute game, the two groups met for pictures and autographs before going their separate ways, but not without some newfound respect for each others’ culture.
