The U.S. Adult Soccer Association, which relocated their headquarters from New Jersey to Indiana in 2002, is responsible for developing the sport for players over the age of 19. Within the USASA, local clubs are affiliated with leagues which, in turn, are affiliated with their state associations. A competitive-oriented organization, the USASA helps develop club and select teams on a national basis for both men and women.

As part of that development, the USASA stages the annual National Cup Finals, which features champions from each of the four U.S. Soccer regions (Regions I, II, III and IV) squaring off in 10 different age brackets (men’s and women’s Under-20, Under-23, Over-30, Open and Amateur).

The USASA, in association with the U.S. Soccer Federation, helps stage the annual Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, the oldest annual team tournament in the United States dates back to 1914, when the Brooklyn Field Club won the first national title by defeating the Brooklyn Celtics in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.

The USASA also organizes the George F. Donnelly Cup, the national championship for state select teams, and the annual U.S. Soccer Festival, which is administered by the organization’s Select Teams Committee. It was first staged in 1996 in San Antonio after the U.S. Olympic Committee discontinued their U.S. Sports Festival in 1995. Participating teams include the four USASA Regional Select Teams and typically one or two U.S. National Team selections. The U.S. Soccer Festival was contested in Oregon in 1999 and in Rhode Island in 2000. The 2001 tournament took place in Chicago, while the 2002 event was held in Houston. The 2003 tournament was moved from Thanksgiving to Martin Luther King Day weekend in January and was played in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
