NaTIONAL TEAM HIGHLIGHTS

• One of just three players to apply for a change of association to play for the USA and the second to make a World Cup roster after Sydney Leroux in 2015. After playing for the U.S. Youth National Teams, Huerta earned five caps for the Mexico senior National Team before gaining her change of national association to represent the United States on September 14, 2017 and earned her first cap for the USA the following day against New Zealand.
• Earned seven caps with the USA from 2017-18 before earning her next call-up for the USA’s games in Australia in November of 2021.
• She set career highs – by far -- for a calendar year in 2022 by playing in 16 matches, starting 11 and seeing 1,074 minutes of action while tallying two assists.
• Appeared in five matches – making three starts and tallying one assist in the group stage win over Jamaica– at the 2022 Concacaf W Championship, helping the USA qualify for both the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and the 2024 Summer Olympics.

PREVIOUS WORLD CUP EXPERIENCE

• Played in four games for Mexico at the 2012 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, scoring three goals while competing with a broken elbow.

CLUB HIGHLIGHTS

• Selected 11^th overall in the 2015 NWSL Draft by the Chicago Red Stars and started her professional career as a forward before later transitioning to outside back.
• Spent three seasons with the Red Stars and two with the Houston Dash before being traded to OL Reign prior to the 2020 season.
• Also spent three seasons on loan in Australia’s W-League – one with Adelaide United and two with Sydney FC.
• Huerta made 19 appearances and 18 starts for the NWSL Shield-winning OL Reign during the 2022 NWSL Regular Season and tallied four assists, tied for fifth overall in the league. She was also a finalist for 2022 NWSL Defender of the Year and was named to the NWSL Best XI.

PERSONAL

• Daughter of Jody and Mauricio Huerta, her father, Mauricio, grew up in Mexico, making Sofia eligible to represent Mexico on the international stage.
• She has an older brother, Andrea, and an older brother, Alex.
• Majored in Communications at Santa Clara where she was an All-American and All-Conference selection as a forward.
• She is the first player from the state of Idaho to earn a cap for the USWNT.
