USMNT November Friendlies – By The Numbers

November 19, 2020
Image
Image

79 – With Matt Miazga and Reggie Cannon’s assists against Panama, the number of matches since the USMNT last had two starting defenders record assists in the same game. It last happened when Fabian Johnson and Timmy Chandler recorded assists in the USMNT’s 6-0 Gold Cup quarterfinal win against Cuba on July 18, 2015 in Baltimore.

29 – Total number of players to have debuted under Gregg Berhalter, following the nine debuts in November. Those first-timers: Johnny Cardoso, Konrad de la Fuente, Nicholas Gioacchini, Richy Ledezma, Yunus Musah, Owen Otasowie, Gio Reyna, Chris Richards and Sebastian Soto.

The 29 debuts are the most under a USMNT head coach through his first 21 matches, surpassing the 25 which occurred under Bob Bradley in 2007-08.

24 years – With his entry into the match against Wales, Internacional midfielder Johnny Cardoso became the first player from a club outside Concacaf or UEFA to feature for the USMNT in an international match. The last occurrence came 24 years ago in the 1996 Concacaf Gold Cup when Cobi Jones joined up with the USMNT from Vasco da Gama of Brazil.

22 years, 154 days
– The average age of the USMNT Starting XI against Panama – the second youngest in team history after the lineup that began the match against Italy on Nov. 20, 2018 in Genk, Belgium (22 years, 71 days).

18 years, 3 days – The age of Gio Reyna when he scored his first international goal against Panama. With the strike, Reyna became the third youngest player to score for the USMNT, behind only Christian Pulisic (17 years, 253 days) and Juan Agudelo (17 years, 359 days).

Reyna’s 18th minute goal was also the earliest first goal for a USMNT player since Sebastian Lletget scored in the fifth minute of the USA’s 6-0 World Cup Qualifying win against Honduras on March 24, 2017 in San Jose.

7 –The number of times three first-time goal scorers tallied in a USMNT match after Gio Reyna, Nicholas Gioacchini and Sebastian Soto scored their first goals against Panama. The last occurrence came in the USMNT’s 3-0 win against Bolivia on May 28, 2018.
