CHICAGO (Feb. 22, 2021) – U.S. Women’s National Team midfielder Catarina Macario has returned to France and Olympique Lyonnais in order to complete her government-mandated seven-day quarantine so she can be prepared and eligible to play in the club’s UEFA Women’s Champions League Round of 16 first leg match against Danish side Brøndby on March 4.

Macario’s departure was previously agreed upon between OL and U.S. Soccer prior to the tournament. Macario played in the USA’s first match of the 2021 SheBelieves Cup against Canada on Feb. 18, earning her third career cap and second career start.

She will miss the USWNT’s tournament finale against Argentina on Feb. 24 (7 p.m. ET on FS1 and TUDN) and the USA will play that match with 22 players on its roster. The USA needs a win or a tie against Argentina to win the 2021 SheBelieves Cup, presented by Visa.
