CHICAGO (April 26, 2021)—The U.S. eNational Team has qualified for the 2021 FIFA eNations Cup. The eNT’s Gordon “FCC Fiddle” Thornsberry and Mohamed “KingCJ0” Diop reached the Grand Final of North & Central America qualifiers to earn a berth at FIFA’s official international eFootball competition, set to be held Aug. 20-22 in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Five teams entered the regional qualifying tournament, with two advancing to the eNations Cup. Each match-up featured one game on PlayStation and one on Xbox. After finishing second in the group stage, the U.S. topped Costa Rica in the upper semifinals and defeated Mexico in the upper final to secure its place at the eNations Cup.
The knockout round of qualifying was played with double elimination. The U.S. dropped a tight result to Mexico in the tournament’s grand final and then fell again to El Tri in the reverse final to finish second in the competition.
FCC Fiddle (Xbox) and KingCJ0 (PlayStation) earned their spots on the eNational Team after winning the inaugural U.S. Soccer eNT Open earlier this month.
Twenty-four teams will contest the second edition of the FIFA eNations Cup this summer in Copenhagen. France won the inaugural 2019 tournament in London. In addition to the USA and Mexico, Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay have already qualified from South America. Qualifiers for Asia & Oceania, Europe and the Middle East & Africa will take place over the next few weeks.
