CHICAGO (Feb. 6, 2023) – U.S. Under-17 Men’s Youth National Team goalkeeper Diego Kochen has been ruled out of the 2023 Concacaf U-17 Championship due to an elbow injury. After Concacaf granted U.S. Soccer’s request to have Kochen replaced, San Diego Loyal goalkeeper Duran Ferree has been added to the 20-player roster for World Cup qualifying.

Per tournament regulations, an injured player may be replaced up to 24 hours before the kick-off of a team’s first match of the competition. The replacement must come from the 60-player provisional roster and be approved by the tournament medical committee.

San Diego Loyal’s youngest-ever signing, Ferree made his professional debut for the club during the 2022 USL Championship season, appearing in two October matches. The goalkeeper earned his first U-17 call-up during the team’s January training camp and also trained with the squad in August.

Ferree was initially named an alternate for the Concacaf U-17 Championship roster, FC Dallas goalkeeper Julian Eyestone will now travel to Guatemala to train with the team as an alternate ahead of the tournament.

The USA kicks off the Concacaf U-17 Championship on Saturday, Feb. 11 vs. Barbados (8 p.m. ET; FS2, ViX+).
