Kellyn Acosta went from goat to a hero within minutes. Defender Mark McKenzie, who took 65 games to score his first goal in Europe, did not take nearly as long for his second tally. Josh Sargent also found the back of the net again while two defenders, Walker Zimmerman and John Tolkin, set up goals to help their teams to secure points this past weekend in MLS.

FROM GOAT TO HERO

LAFC midfielder Kellyn Acosta went from one end of the spectrum to the other in his team's 1-1 draw at the Philadelphia Union in the first leg of the Concacaf Champions League semifinals series on Wednesday, April 26.

Daniel Gazdag converted a penalty kick in the 86th minute after a VAR check determined that Acosta handled the ball while blocking Jack McGlynn's shot. Only five minutes later, Acosta made up for his mistake, connecting for a dramatic equalizer at Subaru Park. He drilled home Denis Bouanga's right-wing cross from six yards past goalkeeper Andre Blake.

Acosta also scored against Philly in the 2022 MLS Cup final. The teams will battle for a berth in the CCL final in Tuesday’s second leg at BMO Stadium (10 p.m. ET; FS1, UniMás, TUDN).

TWO WEEKS IN A ROW

After joining Genk for the 2020-21 Belgian Pro League season, it took defender Mark McKenzie 65 games before he celebrated his first goal for the club, on Sunday, April 23.

It took only a week for him to score his second,  as he recorded the winning goal in the league leaders' 3-1 victory over Club Brugge on Sunday, April 30.

McKenzie gave the hosts a 2-1 edge, putting home a Mike Tresor feed past Belgium international goalkeeper Simon Mignolet in the 56th minute.

IN A LOSING CAUSE

Striker Josh Sargent struck for his 13th goal in Norwich City's 2-1 defeat at West Bromwich Albion in the English Championship on Saturday, April 29.

Sargent scored off a Dimitrios Giannoulis pass to give Norwich a 1-0 lead in the 41st minute.

Norwich City, however, was eliminated from contention for the promotion playoffs later this month.

REACHING THE FINAL

Defender Cameron Carter-Vickers played the full 90 minutes for Celtic in its 1-0 home win at Rangers in another Old Firm Derby confrontation in the Scottish FA Cup semifinals on Sunday, April 30.

Celtic, which already has won the Scottish Premiership crown, will meet Inverness in the cup final in early June.

A DEFENSIVE ASSIST

Defender John Tolkin's corner kick set up Cory Burke's equalizing goal in the 89th minute of the New York Red Bulls' 1-1 road draw at the Chicago Fire on Saturday, April 29. Burke headed in Tolkin's perfect feed from six yards past keeper Chris Brady.

Center back Walker Zimmerman didn't wait as long to record his assist, setting up Fafa Picault's 36th-minute goal in a 3-1 triumph over Atlanta United on Saturday, April 29.

Zimmerman flicked the ball at the near post to Picault, who tapped the ball home from close range past keeper Clement Diop.

THE INJURED LIST

Veteran center back Tim Ream, who starred for the USA at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, will be lost for the rest of the English Premier League season with a broken arm. Ream landed awkwardly after a collision with Man City forward Julian Alvarez and was forced from Fulham's 2-1 loss to Manchester City in the 22nd minute on Sunday, April 30.

Alex Zendejas suffered a muscle injury to his right leg on the last day of the first stage of Liga MX's Torneo Clausura on Friday, April 28. He left Club America's 1-0 victory at Juarez in the 39th minute and reportedly could be lost for two weeks.

Malik Tillman left Rangers’ 1-0 defeat to Celtic in the Scottish FA Cup semifinals in the 41st minute with an apparent hamstring injury on Sunday, April 30. Tillman, on loan from Bayern Munich, was injured in a challenge with defender Greg Taylor. He has scored 12 goals across all competitions this season.
