ALICANTE, Spain (May 31, 2024) – The U.S. Under-19 Women’s National Team fell to Spain, 3-0, in the first of two matches against the hosts.

The teams will meet again on June 3 (11 a.m. local time / 5 a.m. ET) at Estadio Municipal Guillermo Amor. Both matches will be streamed live on the Spain FA’s Youtube page and will be available to watch in the United States.

Spain is currently setting the standard for women’s international soccer as the reigning FIFA U-20 and U-17 Women’s World Cup champions, along with winning the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup last summer.

While Spain had most of the play in the match and kept the pressure on the U.S. defense the entire match, the first goal didn’t come until the first minute of first half stoppage time as Daniella Lázar emerged from a scramble outside the penalty area to bounce a ball into the net past diving U.S. goalkeeper Kealey Titmuss.

Spain doubled its lead early in the second half after Spain won the ball near the center circle after a goal kick, quickly connected several passes up the middle, and Alba Alonso struck her shot into the lower left corner from just outside the penalty area.

Cristina Quiroga scoring Spain’s final goal, getting on the end of a looping in a cross in the 80th minute that she headed back across the goal and into the right upper corner.

Players born on or after Jan. 1, 2005, are age-eligible for this U-19 WYNT cycle. For this camp, Kveton selected nine players born in 2005 and 11 born in 2006. All players in the U-19 WYNT player pool are age-eligible for the upcoming 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, set for September in Colombia.
