U-17 MNT Takes Down St. Kitts and Nevis 7-0 in Second Match at Concacaf U-17 Qualifiers

SAN JOSÉ, COSTA RICA (Feb. 12, 2025) – The U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team defeated St. Kitts and Nevis 7-0 in its second match at the 2025 Concacaf U-17 Qualifiers. Forward Tanner Rosborough netted four goals, while forward Axel Uriostegui, midfielder Cristiano Oliveira and defender Enrique Martinez netted individual tallies in another strong showing as head coach Gonzalo Segares rotated the starting XI with nine changes from the tournament opener.

The USA will next face Cuba on Saturday, Feb. 15 (8 p.m. ET; Fox Soccer Plus, ViX) for the top spot in Group F and a ticket to the newly-expanded 48-team FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar this fall. Following the first two matchdays, the U.S. sits atop Group F with six points and +29 goal differential while Cuba is in second place after downing U.S. Virgin Islands 6-3 in Wednesday’s first match.

CONCACAF U-17 QUALIFIERS – GROUP F STANDINGS

The U.S. didn’t get off to as fast a start as its dominant performance in the first match against U.S. Virgin Islands, but still controlled the game from the get-go. On the evening, the USA outshot the Sugar Boyz42-4 and out-possessed its opponent 76 percent to 24. St. Kitts came out sitting in a deep low block that was a challenge to break down at times, as the Kittiansmade a number of hard tackles to stymie some good U.S. attacking runs.

After narrowly skying a shot over the bar in the fifth minute, the breakthrough came in the 11th as the U.S. press caused a misplay and Uriostegui pounced on the opportunity to score.

The U.S. was patient in its build-up from the back and put several good balls into the box, both on hard-rolling crosses and in the air. St. Kitts cleared one nice spell of possession up the right side in the 19th, but the U.S. struck again on the ensuing throw-in, working the ball into the box and to the feet of Oliveira for the game’s second goal.

The U-17 MNT had an opportunity to extend its lead even further when it was awarded a penalty kick in the 23rd, but St. Kitts goalkeeper Victor Hart Jr. denied Rosborough’s attempt. Despite the setback, the New York Red Bulls forward found redemption just a few minutes later. Chasing a long ball into St. Kitts territory, he outworked his mark and got a leg around his defender to shoot and tally his first of the night.

Another few close calls came in the 34th and 35th, with midfielder Luca Moisa hitting one over the bar from inside the box and Hart Jr. saving a header on-goal from his own teammate. Play paused for a spell in the 34th due to lighting issues at the Estadio Nacional, but the U.S. took full advantage of the 11 minutes of extra time, adding its fourth just before the break. Forward Jamir Johnson made an impressive run down the right wing, fending off two defenders and managing to stay on his feet to rip a shot at the ‘keeper. While Hart Jr. made the initial save, it spilled out to Rosborough right in front of goal and he hammered it home to bag his brace.

The U.S. continued to dominate after the break, holding the vast majority of possession andcreatingsome dangerous looks before getting back on the board in the 58th. As St. Kitts tried to clear a corner, it came to the head of Enrique Martinez in front of the right post for a goal over the ‘keeper. A corner also sparked the next U.S. tally in the 69th. A good ball in from forward Kellan LeBlanc got over the first defender and to the head of Rosborough to secure a hat trick. The striker put an exclamation point on things in the 84th as a well-hit cross from the right of the box found Rosborough on the opposite side and he one-timed it for his fourth.

• Forward Tanner Rosborough’s four goals made him the seventh U.S> player to score a hat trick at U-17 World Cup qualifying and third at this edition. The previous triples were Chase Adams (2025 vs. U.S. Virgin Islands), Maximo Carrizo (2025 vs. U.S. Virgin Islands), Cruz Medina (2023 vs. Barbados), Gio Reyna (2019 vs. Guadeloupe), Joe Gallardo (2015 vs. Cuba) and Josh Perez (2015 vs. Guatemala).
