USMNT Rewind: Johnny’s header sparks Real Betis to victory, clutch Cup performances in England, and more

Johnny Cardoso produced a head's up play and goal for Real Betis in an upset of Real Madrid in Spain.
Alejandro Zendejas continued his torrid pace for Club América with a goal and assist in Liga MX's Clausura.
Antonee Robinson did not produce one of his signature crosses for an assist, but converted the game-winning penalty kick in a shootout win for Fulham in the FA Cup in England.
Chris Richards also assisted on a goal for Crystal Palace in its win in the same competition.
For the second consecutive week, Jesús Ferreira set up a Paul Arriola goal in the Seattle Sounders in the Concacaf Champions Cup.
And, rounding out the top U.S. Men's National Team player highlights from the last week, goalkeepers Ethan Horvath, Matt Turner and Patrick Schulte made headlines for their teams.
Johnny Cardoso headed home the equalizer for Real Betis in its 2-1 comeback victory over visiting Real Madrid on Saturday, March 1. Cardoso took advantage of some shoddy defending and headed in Isco's corner kick from close range past goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois to knot the score at 1-1 in the 34th minute. It was his first goal of the La Liga season.
Real Betis (10-8-8, 38 points) moved into sixth place with a two-point advantage over seventh-place Rayo Vallecano (9-8-9, 36) in the race for European qualification.
There seems to be no stopping Alejandro Zendejas these days. He scored one goal and added an assist for Club América in 89 minutes of action for Club America in a 3-0 home victory over Toluca in the Liga MX Clausura on Saturday, March 1. Zendejas set up Alvaro Fidalgo for a 1-0 edge in the sixth minute before Fidalgo returned the favor with a feed from the left flank to the midfielder for a 51st-minute goal. Zendejas has scored nine goals this season and is two tallies shy of equaling his career best (2022-23).
Club America (7-1-2, 23) sits in second place in the table, trailing Leon (8-0-2, 26) by three points.
Left back Antonee Robinson has made headlines as an assist machine for Fulham this English Premier League campaign. In the fifth round of the English FA Cup on Sunday, March 2, he grabbed the spotlight for another reason. Robinson converted the game-winning penalty kick in the shootout, which helped Fulham to a 4-3 shootout triumph over Manchester United at Old Trafford. He calmly buried his attempt past goalkeeper Andre Onana. Then, Fulham goalie Bernd Leno saved Joshua Zirkzee's kick to clinch the tie-breaker.
The Cottagers will host Crystal Palace in the quarterfinals on the weekend of March 29. No exact date has been set yet.
Speaking of Crystal Palace, Chris Richards picked up a late assist in its 3-1 FA Cup fifth-round victory over 10-man Millwall on Saturday, March 1. With the hosts clinging to a 2-1 lead in the 81st minute, Richards flicked Eberechi Eze's free kick across the goal to a backpedaling Edward Nketiah. The forward then headed a looping shot off the far post for the final goal of the match.
Jesús Ferreira set up his former FC Dallas teammate Paul Arriola in the Seattle Sounders' 3-1 second-leg win over Antigua GFC in the first round of the Concacaf Champions Cup on Wednesday, Feb. 26. Ferreira was played a ball down the left flank before he dropped a pass back to Arriola, who sent his shot in the back of the net for a 2-1 lead in the 53rd minute. The two players teamed up for the same result in the first leg in a 3-1 victory at Antigua. Seattle won the series, 6-2.
Two goalkeepers recorded shutouts and a third backstopped an FA Cup win last week.
* Ethan Horvath made his first league appearance for Cardiff City in nearly six months in its 1-0 win over Hull City in the English Championship on Tuesday, Feb. 25. The U.S. keeper saved Hull City's best opportunity as he caught Alfie Jones' six-yard header in the 85th minute. He replaced Jak Alnwick, who suffered a season-ending hamstring injury. Horvath, who has played in cup matches this season, last played in the league in a 2-0 loss to Middlesbrough on Aug. 31.
* Columbus Crew keeper Patrick Schulte recorded his first shutout of the MLS season, making two saves in a 1-0 win at the New England Revolution on Saturday, March 1.
* While he didn't add a clean sheet to his collection, Matt Turner helped Crystal Palace to a 3-1 victory over 10-man Millwall in the fifth round of the English FA Cup on Saturday, March 1.
