UDEN, Netherlands (June 11, 2025) – The U.S. Under-16 Girls’ National Team opened a three-game set against top European teams with a 0-0 draw against the host Netherlands.

Despite outshooting the Dutch 20-4 in the 80-minute match, the young Americans could not find the net. U.S. goalkeeper Malia Zillman picked up the shutout.

The teams then contested a penalty kick shootout to give the players valuable experience taking penalties under game conditions and the USA prevailed 4-3 as Zillman made two excellent saves.

U.S. head coach Ciara Crinion’s side will next face Germany on June 13 and Norway on June 16. All games are taking place at SportparkParkzicht in Uden, Netherlands.

All 20 players on the U-16 roster were born in 2009 except for midfielder Loradana Paletta, who was born in 2011. With the age cut-off for players to be eligible to play in the 2025 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup being Jan. 1, 2008, all the players are available for selection for the World Cup Team, which will be made up primarily of 2008s.
