Gotham FC Midfielder Jaelin Howell Called Up to Replace Sam Coffey on USWNT Roster for October Training Camp
Coffey Ruled Out After Picking Up an Injury in Yesterday’s Manchester City Win Over Arsenal; Howell Has Six Caps and One Goal for the USWNT

ATLANTA (Oct. 5, 2026) – U.S. Women’s National Team head coach Emma Hayes has called up Gotham FC midfielder Jaelin Howell to replace the injured Sam Coffey on the training camp roster for the October FIFA window that includes two matches against the world’s number one-ranked Spain.
Coffey picked up an injury yesterday in Manchester City’s 4-2 Women’s Super League win over Arsenal and will remain at her club for ongoing assessment and rehabilitation.
Howell has a long history in the U.S. Women’s National Team program. The Windsor, Colorado native played for the USA at the 2016 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Jordan and the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in France. She made her full USWNT debut at the age of 21 on Nov. 27, 2020, coming on as a late substitute against the Netherlands in Breda, Netherlands. She scored her only USWNT goal in a 9-1 win over Uzbekistan on April 9, 2022, in Columbus, Ohio.
Howell, 26, has six career USWNT caps and that one goal. Her most recent cap came in the final match of 2025, when she came on as a late substitute vs. Italy in Ft. Lauderdale in the 2-0 U.S. win. Howell, along with her former youth club and U.S. Youth National Team teammate Sophia Wilson, were the second and first players, respectively, born after the 1999 FIFA Women's World Cup to earn full National Team caps.
In what will be two highly anticipated matches between the two top-ranked teams in the world, the USA will host Spain on Oct. 10 at Audi Field in Washington, D.C. (2:30 p.m. ET on TBS and HBO Max in English and on Telemundo, Universo and Peacock in Spanish) in a match presented by Purina and on Oct. 13 at Subaru Park in Chester, Pa. (7 p.m. ET on TNT and HBO Max in English and on Universo and Peacock in Spanish) in a match presented by AT&T. Both matches will also be available on the radio on Westwood One Sports with the Oct. 13 game also available in Spanish on Fútbol de Primera.
