CHICAGO (Sept. 13, 2019) – The U.S. Men’s Beach Soccer National Team was drawn against Switzerland, Japan and the host nation, Paraguay in Group A of the 2019 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup, which will be played in Asunción from Nov. 20 to Dec 1. FIFA held the draw Friday night at the CONMEBOL Convention Centre in Asuncion.

The 16-team field was drawn into four groups of four. The top two teams from each group after round-robin play will advance to the Quarterfinals.

Group B: Uruguay, Mexico, Italy, Tahiti
Group C: Belarus, United Arab Emirates, Senegal, Russia
Group D: Brazil, Oman, Portugal, Nigeria

The USA clinched a berth at the 2019 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup by advancing to the 2019 Concacaf Beach Soccer Championship final in May with a penalty kick win over El Salvador after the teams drew 3-3 through three periods and extra time.

USA captain Nick Perera won the tournament’s Top Scorer award with 13 goals. He also set a new USA record for most goals in a Beach Soccer World Cup qualifying tournament, surpassing his own record of 11 set in 2013.

The USA has now qualified for five of ten FIFA Beach Soccer World Cups: 2005 Brazil, 2006 Brazil, 2007 Brazil, 2013 Tahiti and 2019 Paraguay.
