Defender Earns First Nomination After Leading the U-19 MYNT’s Return to the Field This Year

After serving as an important leader during the U.S. Under-19 Men’s Youth National Team’s return to action this year, defender Josh Wynder has been named a finalist for 2022 Chipotle U.S. Soccer Young Male Player of the Year.
For the second year in a row, fans will have the opportunity to vote on select Player of the Year Awards, with the fan vote comprising 15% of the total vote. Nominees for all awards are selected by U.S. Soccer’s technical staff. Voting for the awards starts Thursday, Dec. 15 at 11:00 a.m. ET and closes on Dec. 22 at 11:59 p.m. ET. The winners will be announced in the weeks that follow.
Let’s take a look at some of Wynder’s highlights from 2022:
Appeared in all five matches for the U-19s, logging 291 minutes during their undefeated campaign and providing a steady presence on the back line.
Captained the squad twice, tied for the team lead.
Played in all three matches during the USA’s title run at September’s Slovenia Nations Cup and provided an assist in the team’s wild 4-3 win against Croatia.
Enjoyed a breakthrough season for Louisville City FC in the USL Championship, making 24 appearances.
Finished runner-up for USL Championship Young Player of the Year.
Played an important role during Louisville’s run to the USL Championship Final, appearing in all three games of the postseason run, converting his attempt in a penalty kick shootout vs. Pittsburgh to reach the Eastern Conference Final and starting the championship match.
Contributed during Louisville’s Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup run, converting the decisive 10th penalty during a shoot-out in the tournament’s third round against St. Louis City SC II.
