U.S. Under-23 Women’s Youth National Draws France 1-1 To Finish Trip To Paris
U.S. Forward Alyssa Thompson Scores in Second Consecutive Game
CLAIREFONTAINE, France (Feb 20, 2023) – The U.S. Under-23 Women’s Youth National Team drew 1-1 with France in the second of two matches between the teams at the Clairefontaine training center outside of Paris.
The USA starting lineup featured four professionals and seven college players, although three of the pros (forwards Alyssa Thompson, Michelle Cooper and Alexa Spaanstra) have yet to make their NWSL regular season debuts. Thompson, the top pick in the 2023 NWSL Draft by Angel City FC, scored the USA’s lone goal in the draw in the 13th minute. She also scored in the USA’s 2-0 win over France on Feb. 17 in the first match between the teams.
The USA held the lead until the 83rd minute when France’s Madeline Roth notched the equalizer.
Seven players on this roster played for the USA at the 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup: defenders Lauren Flynn, Lilly Reale and Laney Rouse, midfielder Korbin Albert, and forwards Trinity Byars, Cooper and Thompson.
