Ten players will have an opportunity to make their U.S. Men's National Team debut this month.
Goalkeepers Drake Callender and Matt Freese, defenders Max Arfsten and George Campbell, midfielder Emeka Eneli, and forwards Patrick Agyemang, Caden Clark, Brian Gutiérrez, Matko Miljevic and Indiana Vassilev were called into camp by head coach Mauricio Pochettino to take part in the USMNT’s 2025 January Camp.
They will have an opportunity to play when the USMNT hosts Venezuela in Fort Lauderdale on Jan. 18 and Costa Rica in Orlando on Jan. 22.
GOALKEEPERS
Drake Callender – Inter Miami
On a team that boasts the likes of Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets and Luis Suarez, Drake Callender doesn't have to worry about scoring goals. He has been charged to stop them for Inter Miami CF. He was good enough to be called up to the USMNT for the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup and the 2024 January camp. The Sacramento, Calif. native did not see any action, but being with the squad was a learning experience and a half for the 27-year-old Callender, who was named Miami's 2023 defensive player of the year. In 2024, Callender backstopped Miami's run to the MLS Supporters' Shield, making 104 saves and allowing 45 goals in 32 games, recording five shutouts. One of his finest moments was in the 2023 Leagues Cup final against Nashville SC, when the 6-3, 194-lb. keeper converted a penalty kick in the shootout and saved the last PK to give Miami its first trophy. Callender played at the University of California, Berkeley, where he registered 16 shutouts in 54 contests. Miami acquired his Homegrown Player rights from the San Jose Earthquakes in December 2019.
Matt Freese - New York City FC
After enjoying a breakout year in 2024, Matt Freese received his second call-up to the national team this January. The 26-year-old goalie was outstanding in net last year, establishing himself as one of the best in MLS. For his efforts, he was named New York City FC's team MVP. After four seasons as an understudy to Philadelphia Union and Jamaica international keeper Andre Blake, Freese received his big break when he was traded to NYCFC in 2023. The Wayne, Pa. native allowed eight goals in 10 games while accumulating five clean sheets. As the No. 1 choice last season, Freese was outstanding, starting all 34 matches and recording six shutouts. He played a major role in City reaching the Eastern Conference semifinals, as he was named Player of the Match after a superb performance against favored FC Cincinnati in the final first round game. He made several vital saves in a scoreless draw in regulation before producing three more in a 6-5 shootout win.
DEFENDERS
Max Arfsten - Columbus Crew
In his second season with the Columbus Crew, Max Arfsten did not suffer a sophomore jinx. In fact, he grew into his position as a wingback, connecting for four goals and eight assists over 27 starts and 30 regular season games as the Crew captured the Leagues Cup crown. The 6-1, 172-lb. Arsten, who is known for his tireless work rate, started his MLS career with a bang in 2023, coming off the bench to score in his debut in a 6-1 victory over Atlanta United. The 21-year-old went on to finish his rookie season with two goals and two assists in a dozen contests. In the MLS Cup Playoffs, Arfsten continued to be a thorn in Atlanta's side, scoring his first postseason goal in a 4-2 first-round loss. He played three seasons at the University of California, Davis, earning Big West Offensive of the Year honors in 2021 before turning pro. The Fresno, Calif. native performed with San Jose Earthquakes II, scoring nine times in 24 matches. He was selected by the Crew as the 14th overall pick in the 2023 MLS SuperDraft.
George Campbell - CF Montréal
After he was traded by Atlanta United to CF Montréal for General Allocation Money two years ago, George Campbell has become a regular on the backline. He has combined his physicality and aerial dominance to thwart potential goal-scorers. In 2023, the 6-2, 185-lb. defender made 21 starts over 26 matches, scoring once and assisting once. He added three assists in 28 matches and 25 starts in 2024. Atlanta United signed Campbell as its sixth Homegrown Player in 2019. The 23-year-old was previously called up to the U.S. Under-23 national camp for friendlies in March 2024, and played twice for U-20 national squad.
MIDFIELDERS
Emeka Eneli - Real Salt Lake
Emeka Eneli is coming off an impressive second season with Real Salt Lake, as his teammates voted him the team's MVP. He was their iron man, starting 35 of 38 matches across all competitions. The Lansing, Mich. native became a valuable link in the middle of the field, receiving the ball under pressure with the ability to quickly move it to a teammate. Eneli made his MLS debut in a 4-0 home defeat to St. Louis CITY SC on March 25, 2023. He scored his lone regular-season goal in a 2-1 loss to the Colorado Rapids on March 9, 2024. The 5-9 midfielder also tallied RSL's lone playoff goal in the opening round against Minnesota United. Eneli had outstanding career at Cornell University as he captained the squad for two seasons, while earning second team All-American honors and helping the team reach the NCAA Division I Sweet Sixteen for the first time in almost three decades. He contributed 20 goals and 17 assists, before graduating with a biological engineering degree. Eneli was selected by RSL as the 25th overall choice in the 2023 MLS SuperDraft.
FORWARDS
Patrick Agyemang - Charlotte FC
After getting his feet wet as an MLS rookie in 2023, Patrick Agyemang had a breakout season with Charlotte FC last year. He scored a team-high 10 goals and added five assists, good for third on the squad. Agyemang is a rarity, having started his college career at Eastern Connecticut State University, a Division III school, where he netted 30 goals and added 10 assists in two seasons. He also earned Division III All-America honors and was named Little East Conference player of the year as a sophomore. He transferred to the University of Rhode Island (Division I), where he connected for 19 goals and 12 assists in his final two seasons and wound up on the MAC Hermann Award Watch List. After the East Hartford, Conn. native was selected by Charlotte FC as the 12th overall selection of the 2023 MLS SuperDraft, the 6-4 Agyemang scored 10 goals in only a dozen matches for Crown Legacy FC (MLS NEXT Pro) while seeing the field in 12 games. He played 182 minutes for the MLS club. Agyemang is trying to become the first URI player since Geoff Cameron to play for the USMNT.
Caden Clark - CF Montréal
This is Caden Clark's second USMNT call-up after previously being with the team as an unused substitute during a 1-0 U.S. victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina on Dec. 19, 2021. As a 17-year-old, Clark enjoyed an auspicious MLS debut. On the same day that the New York Red Bulls acquired his rights, he scored the lone goal in a 1-0 victory over host Atlanta United on Oct. 10, 2020. He finished his short season with two goals in seven matches. In 2021, the 5-11, 161-lb. attacking midfielder was loaned to RB Leipzig but did not make an appearance for the Bundesliga club. In 2022, the Medina, Minn. native was loaned to Vendsyssel FF (Denmark) before he was traded to Minnesota United the next season. Late in the 2024 season, he was dealt to CF Montréal, where he found the net four times in nine matches while setting up four goals. Now 21, Clark was a member of the U.S. team that won the 2022 Under-20 Concacaf Championship, which helped the USA qualify for the 2024 Summer Olympics and the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup. He scored three goals in 12 contests for the U-20 squad.
Brian Gutiérrez - Chicago Fire
He may be only 21, but Brian Gutiérrez already has 120 MLS matches, 80 starts, 10 goals and 20 assists under his belt. Over the last three seasons, the 5-10, 141-lb. Gutiérrez has become a mainstay in the Fire midfield. He has been productive in each season, totaling two goals and seven assists in 2022, two goals and a team-high nine assists in 2023 and six goals and three assists last season. He was named Fire’s team MVP in 2023. Born in Berwyn, Ill., Gutiérrez has been with the Fire organization for a decade, after joining the club's youth academy in 2015. He signed with the team as a Homegrown player in 2020. He has experience playing for the USA with the U-16, U-20 and U-23 squads.
Matko Miljevic - Unattached
As of Jan. 1, Miljevic is without a team after leaving Newell's Old Boys in Argentina. Born in Miami, Fla., the 23-year-old Miljevic started his career with Argentinos Juniors in 2018, scoring once in six appearances over four seasons with the first team. He signed with CF Montréal in 2021, where he found the net twice in 35 matches through the 2023 campaign. Miljevic is eligible to play for Argentina, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, and the United States at international level. The 5-7 Miljevic played with the U.S. U-16 and U-20 teams, as well as Argentina's U-18 and U-20 squads.
Indiana Vassilev - St. Louis CITY SC
Putting on a U.S. shirt certainly won't be anything new for Vassilev, as he has represented his country at the U-17, U-18, U-20, and U-23 levels. He has played overseas with Aston Villa's U-23 team, where he scored four goals in his first six matches of the 2019-20 Premier League 2 season. The Savannah, Ga. Native made his English Premier League debut as a reserve in a 1-1 draw at Brighton & Hove Albion on Jan. 18, 2020. Vassilev, 23, also played on loan with English Football League teams Cheltenham Town and Burton Albion, winning the 2020–21 League Two title with the former. While on loan with Inter Miami CF in 2021, the 5-8, 159-lb. forward tallied his first MLS goal, a stoppage-time game-winner against Nashville on Aug. 8, 2021. St. Louis CITY selected Vassilev in the 2022 expansion draft, and a permanent transfer from Aston Villa was reached in 2023. He became a regular, recording two goals and five assists in 34 appearances in 2023 and three goals and four assists in 29 games in 2024.
