U.S. Men’s National Team faces 10th-ranked Germany in the Coca-Cola Send-Off Match on June 6 in Chicago in final match before 2026 FIFA World Cup



The U.S. Men’s National Team will host Germany on Saturday, June 6 in its final match before heading to Los Angeles to kick off its 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.
Here’s everything you need to know about Germany before they face the USMNT:
The USA hosts Germany in the Coca-Cola Send-Off Match at Soldier Field in Chicago, Ill., on Saturday, June 6 at 3:30 p.m. ET. The match will be broadcast on TNT, TruTV, Telemundo, Universo, HBO Max and Peacock.
The USA holds a 4W-8L-0D record against Germany dating back to 1993. In their last meeting in 2023, Christian Pulisic scored a golazo in the first half before the Germans netted three unanswered for a 3-1 win.The last USA victory was in 2015 when the Americans beat the defending World Cup champions in Cologne, Germany, after Bobby Wood scored a late game-winner for a 2-1 result. It was the first time the USA beat Germany on their home turf after falling 4-2 in Rostock in 2002 and 4-1 in Dortmund in 2006.
The USMNT and Germany have met three times in the World Cup (1998, 2002, 2014), including during the USA’s historic run to the 2002 quarterfinals that ended in a 1-0 defeat in part due to controversial handball decision. Germany has won four World Cup titles (1954, 1974, 1990, 2014), finished second four times and earned third place four times.
Germany is currently ranked 10th in the Coca-Cola FIFA Men’s World Rankings.
Germany holds a 7W-3L-0D record since the start of 2025. The team began last year by falling 2-1 to Portugal in the UEFA Nations League Semifinal and 2-0 to France in the Third Place Match to finish fourth. However, Germany went 5W-1L-0D in European Qualifiers to finish atop Group A and earn a 2026 FIFA World Cup berth. Germany was drawn into Group E with Curaçao, Côte d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast) and Ecuador.
During the March FIFA window, Germany played two friendlies and won 4-3 against Switzerland and 2-1 against Ghana.
Julian Nagelsmann began coaching at the youth level at TSG Hoffenheim in 2010, eventually moving to the senior level before joining RB Leipzig in 2019. Bayern Munich appointed Nagelsmann as head coach in 2021 for a €25 million transfer fee, making him the most expensive manager ever. He won the Bundesliga title that year. He became the head coach of the German national team in September 2023 at 36 years old, the second-youngest coach in program history.
Germany is captained by 31-year-old Joshua Kimmich, who competed in Germany’s youth national team system before making his senior debut in 2016. The midfielder has competed in the last two World Cups and is the longest-tenured active player with 108 caps. Kimmich competes at Bayern and has tallied 31 goals and 80 assists in 11 seasons.
Also coming up from the youth ranks is striker Kai Havertz, who became the first player born in 1999 to compete for Germany after making his debut in 2018. Havertz competed in the last two European Championships and the 2022 World Cup, scoring two goals in all three tournaments. The forward currently plays for Arsenal and recently scored the game-winning goal against Burnley that helped clinch the Premier League title.
