Quartet of All-MLS Matchups Highlights U.S. Open Cup Quarterfinal Action
All four matches to be streamed on Paramount+, co-aired on CBS Sports platforms

The Quarterfinals of the 2026 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup—U.S. Soccer’s national club championship—has arrived! The Quarterfinals feature eight clubs from Major League Soccer (MLS) as the remaining three lower-division sides all fell in the Round of 16. The remaining field features five previous U.S. Open Cup champions, including clubs that have won four out of the past six titles.
All four matches will stream live on Paramount+ and CBS Sports properties. CBS Sports will also provide pre- and post-match studio coverage each matchday across Paramount+ and CBS Sports Golazo Network. Following the Quarterfinals, the Semifinals will take place on Sept. 15 and 16, and the Final will take place on Oct. 21.

Southeastern rivals and recent Open Cup champions Orlando City SC and Atlanta United FC are set to face off for the 27th time—just days after playing to a 1–1 draw in league play on Saturday in Orlando. The pair have only met in Open Cup play once previously, a 2–0 Semifinal victory for Atlanta at Inter&Co Stadium on the way to its 2019 tournament title. This year, both Orlando and Atlanta are fighting to rise above the playoff line in the Eastern Conference, with each side possession fewer than five regular season victories to start the year. Despite their respective slow starts in MLS play, both sides have lost only once across their last five fixtures and also enjoyed strong starts to their Open Cup campaigns; Orlando defeated FC Naples in the Round of 32 and the New England Revolution in the Round of 16, while Atlanta dispatched regional foes Chattanooga FC in the Round of 32 and Charlotte FC in the Round of 16. A victory on Tuesday evening would secure a trip to the Semifinals for the first time since either side lifted the Open Cup trophy, Orlando in 2022 and Atlanta in 2019.
8 p.m. ET; Energizer Park; St. Louis, Mo.; Paramount+ / CBS Sports Network
St. Louis CITY SC and Houston Dynamo FC are aiming to take the advantage in an even 3–3–2 all-time series while simultaneously advancing to the Open Cup Semifinals, something that St. Louis has never accomplished in its four years of existence and Houston has done only four times in 20 years. CITY SC has struggled mightily in league play this season, though Yoann Damet’s side has picked up seven points in their last three MLS matches thanks to victories against the Colorado Rapids and LAFC. For Houston, the Dynamo have secured seven wins in its last nine matches across all competitions, jumping up to sixth place in the Western Conference in the process. The ninth meeting between St. Louis and two-time Open Cup champion Houston marks the third contest outside of league play—the two previously met in a two-legged Concacaf Champions Cup tie in 2024.

In the 30th meeting between the Columbus Crew and New York City FC, both sides will be eager to take one step closer to an Open Cup title. Columbus—winners of the Open Cup in 2002—has not reached the Semifinals since finishing as a runner-up in 2010, while NYCFC has never advanced beyond the Quarterfinals in its 12 seasons of existence. Both sides boast a collection of top performers: NYCFC’s Talles Magno recorded the first hat trick of the tournament in the Round of 32, while Maxi Moralez dished out a trio of assists to sink Hudson River Derby foe Red Bull New York in the Round of 16, though both will likely be unavailable due to injury. For Columbus, the Crew’s Hugo Picard is tied with Louisville City FC’s Tolu Showunmi as the tournament’s joint-leading scorer after posting braces in back-to-back Open Cup matches. Columbus—which relieved Henrik Rydström of his duties as head coach on Sunday following a string of four winless matches—will be eager to add to its dominant 8-1-6 home record against NYCFC in the pair’s first Open Cup meeting.
10 p.m. ET; DICK'S Sporting Goods Park; Commerce City, Colo.; Paramount+ / CBS Sports Network
The Quarterfinals conclude late Wednesday evening at DICK’S Sporting Goods Park, as the Colorado Rapids and San Jose Earthquakes—two of three MLS originals remaining without an Open Cup title—clash for the 82nd time across all competitions. Across 30 years and 81 matches, the pair have only met outside of league play once—an MLS Cup Playoffs contest, specifically the Western Conference Final, that went the way of the eventual champion Rapids in 2010. After starting the season strong, the Rapids have won only once since defeating Union Omaha in the Round of 32 on April 14. Meanwhile, Bruce Arena’s San Jose has been the early surprise of the 2026 MLS campaign, though the Quakes have slowed down a tad after stringing together an eight-match winning streak back in April, now winless across their last four partly due injuries to Timo Werner and Niko Tsakiris. A victory on Wednesday evening would see the Rapids in the Semifinals for the third time in club history—and first since 1999—while San Jose also has only advanced beyond the Quarterfinals on two prior occasions.
