Bio

Carlos Kuri is U.S. Soccer’s Chief Legal Officer where he oversees all legal matters, including Federation and member compliance, appeals and grievances, contracts, and litigation.

Carlos joined the Federation from SXSW, where he served as chief strategy officer and general counsel. There he led SXSW strategy function and legal team, supporting the senior management team in driving company strategy, including leading various strategic initiatives and corporate development projects, and developing associated success metrics and targets. He was tasked with advising senior management on all pending legal and risk management matters, including with respect to complex transactions, marketing and advertising, event production, content development and distribution, intellectual property licensing, litigation and labor and employment.

Prior to SXSW, he was chief legal officer at Heineken USA where he was instrumental in launching and supporting the company’s front-end innovation portfolio and overseeing the company’s intellectual property, litigation and data privacy strategy.

Before that, Carlos was senior vice president and general counsel for Red Bull North America where he led the legal, business affairs and risk management teams for the beverage, distribution, media and consumer products business lines. During his time at Red Bull, he established the legal department for the New York Red Bulls and Red Bull Arena.

Carlos has experience in private practice with the Sports, Entertainment & Media Group at O’Melveny & Myers, LLP in Century City, and with the Project Finance and M&A Groups at Skadden, Arps, Slate & Meagher, LLP in New York.

Carlos is a graduate of the University of Texas; he received his law degree from the University of Virginia. He is a founding advisory board member of SERMA (Sports & Entertainment Risk Management Alliance).
